Photography as a whole is my passion but if I had to choose, sports would be my favorite thing to shoot. My entire life I have been more on the artsy side, while my siblings and most of my friends were athletes. I did play lacrosse and ice hockey for a few years, and I continue to love sports to this day, but playing them just wasn't where my talent lied. For awhile I let that get to me, I was embarrassed and self-conscious because I felt as if I didn't fit in since I wasn't talented enough to be on a team and everyone else was.
In the spring of my freshman year of college, I saw an advertisement from the Athletics Department looking for more student photographers. I'd been playing around with my dad's old camera for a couple years taking nature photos and picture of my friends, but it hadn't ever been more than that to me. Wanting to be involved in something on campus as well as loving sports, I decided to go for it, and here we are today! I discovered by passion for sports photography through my time at Lynchburg and have had incredible freelance opportunities along the way, these have truly been a life-shaping last few years. I'm still a pretty quiet and reserved person, but sports photography gives me the chance to tell stories and showcase the emotion and the aspects of the game that people don't get to see. It has given me the voice that I didn't know I had and taught me to advocate for myself as a female in the industry, as well as grow as an artist and as a person.
